Kiss the Cook is a local gem that opened to quite acclaim near the Borowska hospital about a year ago.
The décor and ambiance of this venue is modern and trendy, yet pleasantly inviting and cozy. The menu stands at an average of 35zl and the selection is pleasingly broad. From fish & chips to black pudding to tuna steaks, there’s something for everyone here.
With recommendations from our waitress, we decided to ring in our Friday night with a little taste of Italian, French, and Moroccan cuisine by ordering the Beef & Mushroom Pappardelle, Steak & Fries, and the Moroccan Burger.
The Beef and Mushroom Pappardelle arrived to the table at a proper al-dente, draped beautifully in a ultra-creamy mushroom sauce. Though daringly minimal, this dish was successful in highlighting the flavor of each ingredient. The shaved aged parmesan added a nice (and expensive touch), which went to show that this restaurant isn’t holding back when it comes to quality ingredients.
With a big and juicy ‘burger’ with Moroccan influences in our mind, we were slightly disappointed when the dish arrived in a wrap-like form. Although we found the description on the menu to be deceiving, we were blown away by the flavors of dish itself. The beef was incredibly juicy and bursting with Moroccan flavors of ginger, turmeric and cumin. The citrus spinach salad that accompanied this dish gave any lingering spices a clean palate.
I do however have to touch on the size of this dish. We found that the wrap and its side salad to not be nearly substantial enough for dinner. We had to ask for a side of fries, which rather laughably turned out to be just 6 fries. Perhaps this dish would be more appropriate for lunch.
More successful was the Steak n’ Fries with Peppercorn Sauce. Bold, charred and rustic, this dish was our favorite of the night. It was full of texture, and unlike some places in town, they actually know what medium rare means.
All things considered, the quality of the food with the comfortable atmosphere and the friendly service will keep us coming back to Kiss the Cook. Our only hope is that they will give the size of their side dishes a little extra thought.
That’s all for today,
Happy Tuesday loves.
