-Most popular and recommended sandwich at Meat & Bread.
-The Ciabatta bun was nice and crispy on ouside and soft on inside. Sadly though the bread is not made in house ( delivered from Swiss Bakery).
-Porchetta (fatty pork meat) was extremely rich in flavor.
-What made this sandwich worthy of a Nobel Prize were the “cracklings”; the pork rind/skin on the actual pork roast that got caramelized to become perfectly salty and crunchy. The cracklings also provided the sandwich with an amazing textural component.
-This is an absolute must have if you stop by Meat & bread
2. Meat & Bread Daily Special: Pemberton Meadows Beef Chuck & Blue Cheese Aioli Sandwich. $8
-Also Inside the sandwich: Caramelized Onion & Sauteed Mushroom, Blue Cheese Aioli, Arugula, Red Wine Jus.
-Despite the red wine jus and blue cheese aioli, this was actually a very “safe sandwich”. Think beef dip taken up a few notches.
-I liked it but didn’t love it. The flavors were good and it was evident that there was thought put in this sandwich, but it just wasn’t excellent.
Conclusion and Meat & Bread Must-Knows:
-This new Pender location is in the heart of downtown Vancouver, so expect long line ups during lunch hour.
-Seating consists of only one long banquet style table. More of a grab-and-go joint.
-There is a new daily special everyday, however, the Porchetta Sandwich is a menu staple.
-Extremely reasonably priced for the quality and amount of meat given.
-One thing extremely odd about this place is that they WILL NOT cut your sandwich in half. They also don’t have knifes. The reason being that “the sandwich fixings will fall out”, as one member of staff had stated to me. The sandwiches are meant to be ate as one piece, and one piece only. I have respect for this though– although, it does make sharing extremely difficult.
